Jerry Sloan: Basketball Coach by day, John Deere Hat – sporting Farmer by night
Just because you have to wear a business suit to work, doesn’t mean you have to fit the part. Just ask Utah Jazz coach, Jerry Sloan. Apparently he prefers to shed his suit and tie after the game in favor of his favorite John Deere Hat, jeans, and a flannel shirt. Sloan is no big-city businessman, commonly mentioning his passion for farming in the offseason.
But the Hall-of-Fame inducted coach takes his job seriously. He is now 4th on the all-time most winning coaches list. So when the NBA tightened its rules on the dress code for players and coaches in 2005, Jerry graciously complied. Until then, his John Deere Hat had become a signature item for the Utah Jazz coach, wearing it to and from the arena.
Some businessmen hide full sleeve tattoos under their business suit. Others wait for casual friday to show off their other side. Fortunately, not many try to merge both business and leisure in the form of the mullet. But for NBA coach, Jerry Sloan, he’ll wear the part on the sidelines of the court, but when the season is over, it’s back to the John Deere Hat and jeans!
